Lungs contain 1500 miles of airways. These are the tubes that carry the air to the air sacs or alveoli.  There are over 300 million of these air sacs.  The total surface area is about the size of one half of a tennis court.  Together both lungs weigh about 5 pounds. Total lung capacity is about 5 litres but at rest we only use about one tenth of that.
